OFFICE OF SUPERINTENDENT
Welcome to the Huntington Beach Union High School District
It is with excitement and enthusiasm that we begin our journey together in the Huntington Beach Union High School District working with people to make a difference in the lives of our students. I thank you for visiting our website and for getting involved in the countless learning opportunities and extra-curricular activities that make our district special. Since joining the HBUHSD team on January 3, 2017, I have enjoyed interacting with students, staff, and parents that appreciate our district’s efforts to bring the highest quality of education to our future leaders.
Located in central Orange County, the HBUHSD proudly serves nearly 15,000 students from four elementary feeder school districts including Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach City, Ocean View, and Westminster.
Our six comprehensive high schools, two alternative high schools, and adult education program enjoy both local recognition as well as a national reputation. Our successes including high test scores, interscholastic championships, and acclaimed performing arts is a direct result of a strong teaching faculty, a dedicated classified staff, and a strong leadership team of school site administrators that receive support from a well-respected and knowledgeable Board of Trustees. This, coupled with strong parent and community advocates, enables our district to educate, prepare, and inspire our students to change the world.
This is accomplished through educational programs that emphasize the development of basic life-long skills by providing innovative learning pathways to support student achievement, connecting students through interactive and engaging instruction, increasing student achievement through access to the most challenging and relevant curriculum, and focusing on the best instructional practices utilizing data driven decisions. Twenty-first century literacy and writing skills, coupled with a solid mathematics and science background, will help prepare our students for college and career readiness.
Thank you again for taking the time to navigate our website, support our schools, and contribute to the ongoing process of developing students who will be the future leaders in our society.
Sincerely,
Clint Harwick, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools

Overview
The Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD), located in Orange County, California, is comprised of nearly 15,000 students in six comprehensive high schools (Huntington Beach High School, Edison High School, Marina High School, Ocean View High School, Fountain Valley High School, and Westminster High School), one continuation high school (Valley Vista High School), one alternative school (Coast High School), and the Huntington Beach Adult School. Our schools are known for their commitment to academic excellence for all students in the communities they serve.
In addition to the wide array of academic offerings at all comprehensive campuses, designated schools have established a variety of specialized programs to enhance student success. These programs include Model United Nations (MUN); Academy for the Performing Arts (APA); International Baccalaureate (IB); Math Educational Resources Integrated with Technology and Science (MERITS); Advancement Via Individualized Determination (AVID); Center for International Business and Communication Studies (CIBACS); and Entertainment & Tourism and Health Academics.
HBUHSD has gained notoriety for providing a full spectrum of special programs and alternative settings for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). With programs like the Special Abilities Cluster (SAC), Pathways, and Endeavors, students with special needs have the opportunity to receive instruction in accordance with their individual needs and to participate in activities a comprehensive school site has to offer.
Higher education opportunities are also offered nearby. The University of California and the California State University systems have campuses within easy driving distance. Additionally, the Coast Community College District provides excellent two-year community college programs for students.
