About Us
The Fountain Valley School District, founded in 1876, is comprised of ten schools, seven elementary and three middle, serving more than 6,000 students from the cities of Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach. Fountain Valley School District seeks to promote a foundation for academic excellence, mastery of basic skills, responsible citizenship, and a desire by students to achieve their highest potential through a partnership with home and community.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to promote a foundation for academic excellence, mastery of basic skills, responsible citizenship, and a desire by students to achieve their highest potential through a partnership with home and community.
Welcome to Fountain Valley School District! For years, our District has been known for its tradition of academic success, earning countless local, state, and national awards for our exceptional educational programs. In fact, for the last several years, FVSD has been the highest-performing elementary district in Orange County. We are also part of an extraordinary community that continues to place a high priority on its children.
In FVSD, we desire to be the best at what we do: educate young minds and develop every student’s unique talent. And it is this passion for greatness pushes us to look for additional ways to help students thrive, not only while they are with us, but well into their futures. Over the last several years, we have made significant progress in professional development, California State Standards implementation, collaboration, technology, curriculum development, facilities modernization, visual and performing arts, student connectedness, and fiscal solvency. This work will only continue through our collective commitment to our vision for every student. In addition, our District Priorities continue to be a guiding force to strategically align our programs, practices, and services with the resources needed to accomplish our goals!
As we look to the new school year, we focus on everything that inspires each of us. While the current school year brings unique challenges, we are confident in the resilience and creativity of our team. The FVSD Family comprises highly skilled teachers and classified staff led by dedicated administrators. In addition, our family is fortunate to include outstanding parents and guardians who have stepped up even more these past few months and will continue to ensure our students succeed this year. Lastly, we are grateful to be a part of a wonderful community that supports our students, staff, and schools in every way possible. Together, our FVSD Family continues the FVSD Way, including a commitment to high expectations for all, working collaboratively to improve practices and meet future challenges, dedicating ourselves to professional learning, and working to ensure that ALL students meet or exceed expectations.
And just as in years past, our commitment to excellence will strengthen our implementation of the California State Standards in English Language Arts and math and enhance the collaborative work of our teachers and administrators to explore and apply the Next Generation Science Standards, STEM initiatives, and signature instructional practices. Additionally, we are incredibly pleased to report that eight of our ten schools have been honored with the Gold Ribbon Schools Award, a recognition program from the California Department of Education. Lastly, we have made significant advances in the implementation of educational technology. Every student can access a Chromebook to support learning. Used effectively, we view technology as a game-changer in student learning, as information is readily available to all, providing us with the necessary time to increase opportunities for problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, and innovation.
As we begin the 2023-2024 school year, we are committed to carrying on our tradition of merit. We will continue to prepare today’s youth for tomorrow’s future as we are devoted and dedicated to impacting the lives of ALL children. And, without a doubt, The FVSD Family will continue to provide a caring and nurturing environment built upon trust, respect, and fostering strong relationships!

Our six comprehensive high schools, two alternative high schools, and adult education program enjoy both local recognition as well as a national reputation. Our successes including high test scores, interscholastic championships, and acclaimed performing arts is a direct result of a strong teaching faculty, a dedicated classified staff, and a strong leadership team of school site administrators that receive support from a well-respected and knowledgeable Board of Trustees. This, coupled with strong parent and community advocates, enables our district to educate, prepare, and inspire our students to change the world.

With Our Exceptional Service You Will Enjoy an All-Exclusive Appointment Without the Stress & Pressure of A Larger Salon.
Thank you for making it to my page! My dream of opening up a Bridal Boutique became a reality for me back in 2018, when I finally decided it was the time. It all started when I was on the hunt to find my own dream dress. I had a completely different perception of what this experience was supposed to be like. Store after store my disappoint grew more and more. The service was far from exceptional, and the majority of the stores were overstuffed with dresses and crowded with so many people.
It was a very stressful environment on top of the stress I was already feeling from planning a wedding! I didn’t feel special walking into many of the boutiques especially since most of them didn’t look like what I imagined them to be. I took all the cons from my experience and turned them into the perfect little boutique! At Layah’s you and your bride tribe will walk into a beautiful, relaxing boutique exclusively just for you for your entire session! Our dresses are quality vs quantity, you will see a unique selection of hand-picked dresses without breaking the bank! As for the service I will let you experience it for yourself!
Stop by our location and take a look!!!!

1997 – 2023
The nation’s first imprint collection of legendary surfers, the Surfers’ Hall of Fame celebrated its first induction in 1997 inside of specialty retailer Huntington Surf and Sport where several slabs remain. The Pai Family along with the Surfers’ Hall of Fame is steadfast in their passion to continue this legacy of paying tribute to those who contribute greatly to the sport of surfing.
The Surfers’ Hall of Fame induction ceremony pays tribute to those individuals who have made an indelible mark on the sport, industry, and culture of surfing. KANVAS BY KATIN BEGINS
In the summer of 1954, Nancy and Walter Katin opened a small boat cover business in the quaint beach town of Surfside, California. Withstanding rigorous testing and utilizing waxed-nylon thread and nickel grommets, the Katin’s canvas boat covers were considered bulletproof. Taking note of the sturdy canvas covers, locals soon sought alternate uses for the Katin’s products.
Walter & Nancy Katin.
1957
CALIFORNIA’S FIRST SURF TRUNK
After receiving requests from a select few friends, Walter constructed some custom boat shorts using the same canvas he constructed his boat covers from. While impressed with the short’s design, Walter chose to continue his focus on the canvas boat covers. When one day, a local teen walked into the shop requesting a new kind of short made specifically for surfing. The young surfer explained his struggles with surfing in cut-off jeans, and how the denim threads would quickly break, leaving him nearly nude when exiting the water. This determined teenager’s name was Corky Carroll, who unbeknownst to Walter, would go on to be one of the world’s first professional surfers.
The custom surf trunks Walter made for Corky would become one of California’s first pair of surf trunks. Word soon spread of the trunks durability and the shop was soon flooded with young surfers wanting a pair. Overwhelmed with the demand, Walter sought the help of Sato Hughes, a skillful local seamstress.

1965
SURFING REACHES THE MAINSTREAM
By the mid-1960s, surfing had reached mainstream popularity and the Katins were firmly entrenched in the surfing community, known for creating the best surf trunks in the market. Professional surfers by the likes of Gerry Lopez (HI), Donald Takayama (HI), Gary Proper (US) Midget Farrelly (AU), Mark Richards (AU), Wayne ‘Rabbit’ Bartholomew (AU) Shaun Tomson (ZA), Peter Townend (AU), Reno Abellira (HI) and Mike Purpus (US) all wore the trunks out of respect for their high quality and their respect for the Katins.

1977
THE KATIN PRO/AM
After Walter passed away in 1967, Nancy expanded her involvement in the surf world by providing surfing scholarships. Nancy launched the annual Katin PRO/AM Team Challenge in Huntington Beach in 1977, and over the years, notable winners included Tom Curren (US), Martin Potter (UK), Sunny Garcia (HI), Shaun Tomson (ZA) and Kelly Slater (US).
1977 Katin Team Challenge spread in Surfer Magazine, 1977.
1980
NANCY REJECTS MULTIPLE OFFERS
By the early 1980s, the surf industry had officially skyrocketed, and many manufacturers were quick to take advantage of the trend. Though there were many offers made to Nancy to sell her business, she was determined to keep Katin a cherished surf haven for all. With the help of Sato, Katin continued making surf trunks in the back room of the Surfside Kanvas by Katin store, selling them up front and relying on the existing loyal network of surf shops for additional distribution.

1986
“THE FIRST LADY OF SURFING” PASSES
In the winter of 1986 Nancy passed away, leaving the surf industry and all of her fans with a heavy heart. However, when Nancy passed, she left the company to Sato Hughes, her loyal seamstress since 1961. Sato and her son Glenn have since continued to run the original surf shop with the same love, dedication, and care as Nancy and Walter, sewing custom surf trunks with the same quality, durability and good looks since 1954.

TODAY
QUALITY, DURABILITY & GOOD LOOKS
Having been born by the beach and raised along the California coast, Katin remains a staple of Southern California culture. Several trunks and summers later, Katin continues to take pride in its title as California’s first brand to make surf trunks, and continues its commitment to Quality, Durability, and Good Looks. See you out there!
